Coimbatore: The Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) has urged the Kerala Government to declare January 15 (Saturday) on Pongal as a local holiday for the benefit of Tamil population living there. Onam The general secretary of the Kazhagam, K. Ramakrishnan, said that Tamil Nadu was declaring as restricted local holiday for Onam in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Kanyakumari and Chennai for the benefit of Keralites living here. Whereas nearly one crore Tamil population was living in Kerala and especially in districts that shares borders with Kerala. Turned down Repeated representations to the Kerala Government seeking to declare holiday for Pongal was turned down, he said. The activists have once again represented their demand in this regard.
