KOCHI: ‘Jennifer,' a 19-minute film with a social message from local boy Kamal Jee, won recognition at the recently-concluded Kerala State Children's Educational Film Festival and the Chennai short film festival. The film is the first directorial venture by Kamal, who came to the limelight for his camera work for the documentary ‘Pathukoottam,' directed by Gopi Mangalath. Kamal, who began his career with the still camera, graduated from the Kerala Film Academy and hails from Palarivattam in the city. He said that his latest film carries a social message of care and concern and an understanding of the problems faced by other people. Jennifer, the heroine of the short film, is a Plus Two student, who initially decides to kill herself over a failed love affair but turns over a new leaf after understanding the meaning of motherly love. The film was selected as ‘A' grade at the Kerala festival, organised by the Department of Education and the State Institute of Education Technology.
