VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna District Lorry Owners Association in partnership with the city police has planned a series of awareness programmes during the week-long road safety campaign that began on Saturday. Unveiling the brochures and other publicity material brought out on the occasion, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) A.V. Ramana said that these programmes would benefit various sections of the society in a significant way. “The road safety week will create awareness among road users through the slogan ‘road safety is a mission not intermission',” he said. The campaign was necessary because the city was witnessing a rising number of road accidents in tune with the increasing number of vehicles. The programmes planned by the KDLOA include ‘Burrakatha' on road safety to be performed at IOC filling station, Kattubadipalem, Kondapalli on Sunday and at Autonagar gate on Monday, at 11 a.m. A rally highlighting the need to follow road safety tips will be taken out from Swaraj Maidan to KDLOA hall on Monday. Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners Association secretary Y.V Eswara Rao said that a seminar on road safety will also be conducted in the association hall on January 4. On January 6, a similar programme will be organised at the Transport Department vehicle fitness centre and driving track opposite Gannavaram airport. KDLOA president P. Raghavendra Rao and secretary Nagumothu Raja were present on the occasion.
