VCD on safe driving techniques released

The free eye camp organised by the Regional Transport Office (South) in Tirupur on Monday as part of Road Safety Week. —

Tirupur: The Collector, C. Samayamoorthy, released an educational VCD on safe driving techniques and a booklet carrying guidelines for drivers as well as pedestrians, here on Monday.

The road safety awareness materials were prepared by the Department of Transport as part of its efforts to ensure better compliance to motor vehicle rules and thereby bring down accident rate in the district.

Regional Transport Officer (Tirupur South) K. Pattappasamy said that it had been planned to distribute the VCDs to as many as 1,000 schools situated in Tirupur rural, Palladam, Udumalpet and Kangeyam areas.

“The VCD contains visual aid for children to easily learn the traffic rules as well as ‘road manners', which were explained by cine actors like Surya,” he added.

Messages

The 52-page booklet carries messages, both in English and Tamil, with information on traffic signs and the ‘dos and don'ts' to be followed while on roads presented neatly under separate chapters. The Transport Department conducted an eye camp to check colour blindness and vision of drivers at the office of RTO (Tirupur South).

As many as 105 people were examined by the doctors from Lotus Eye Care Hospital, Tirupur.

The office of RTO (Tirupur North) along with Lions Club of Tirupur pasted bull's eye on front lights of 400 vehicles.

Regional Transport Officer (Tirupur North) Rajanekanth and Lions Club Road Safety Committee president M. Ramakrishnan were present on the occasion.
