The firm will monitor distribution of gas for power, vehicles and piped supply to houses

Cabinet approves speech copy to be read by Governor at joint House session

BANGALORE: Karnataka on Monday moved further towards implementing piped supply of gas to houses with the State Cabinet approving a proposal to set up a joint venture company with a capital of Rs. 100 crore to monitor the distribution of gas from the proposed Dabhol-Bangalore pipeline for various purposes, including the piped supply.

The company will also look into distribution of gas to power projects, which are coming up along the pipeline in various districts and supply for gas for vehicles.

Briefing presspersons after the Cabinet meeting, Higher Education Minister V.S. Acharya said the joint venture company would be floated with the GAIL having 26 per cent stake and Karnataka State Industrial Investment and Development Corporation having 24 per cent stake. The other companies will get the remaining stake.

He said the laying of the pipeline was expected to be completed by June 2012.

The Cabinet also gave clearance for construction of a 100-foot wide ring road from the Nagavara tank bed to Kempapaura in Bangalore to link the Special Economic Zone. A sum of Rs. 10 crore for the proposed road would come from the Central project of Asside while another Rs. 5 crore would be given by BPL, he said.

The Cabinet cleared a proposal to build a retention wall for the Vrushabavati valley at a cost of Rs. 6.75 crore near Magadi Road and to construct a building for the government Unani Medical College at a cost of Rs. 9.49 crore in Bangalore besides deciding to grant Rs. 10 crore for construction of a milk processing centre in Chickballapur.

The other decisions by the Cabinet included introducing a Bill in the ensuing session to provide permanent rights over the land to tenants in the districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada; a Bill to prevent over-exploitation of groundwater; a Bill on prescribing guidelines for the transfer of doctors and paramedical staff and construction of 931 buildings for the Anganwadis in different parts of the State.

The Cabinet approved the speech copy to be read by the Governor in his address to the joint session of both the Houses of the State legislature on January 6.
