SHG members honoured

In recognition of the best performance



KUDOS:Collector C.N. Maheswaran honouring the Thenampoo Women SHG on Monday.

Tuticorin: In recognition of the best performance by self-help group members during 2009-10, the members of Thenampoo Women Self-help Group were honoured with a shield, certificate and cash prize of Rs.1 lakh.

On Monday, Collector C.N. Maheswaran encouraged the group members to make similar achievement in future too. The Manimegalai award was given to the SHG, which is functioning successfully at Elluvilai of Kuthiraimozhi panchayat under Udangudi Panchayat Union of Tuticorin district.

The women SHG members were delighted over this achievement.

The group comprising 14 members was led by Ambigapathi, the animator. The members were engaged in making of jaggery and other palm-based products. The finished products were fetching a good price in the market.

“We were certainly happy after having honoured by Deputy Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin in Chennai on December 31 at a function. Similar awards were presented to various SHGs of the same village for the third consecutive time. It was the proudest moment for us since we had been selected one of the best groups among four lakh SHGs across Tamil Nadu,” Mrs. Ambigapathi pointed out. F.X.R. George, Director, Scientific Education Developmental Community Organisation, a voluntary organisation, which has been promoting the group activities since 1996, said the members of SHG titled Karpagatheru – I bagged the best performance award during 2007 – 08, Karpagatheru – II during 2008 – 09 and Thenampoo, which is also at the same village, bagged similar prize from the government.
