Sportstar-Vidya Mandir under-14 tournament from today

Chennai: The annual Sportstar-Vidya Mandir invitation under-14 inter-schools cricket tournament gets underway on Tuesday.

The event features 16 teams, divided into four groups of four teams each, and the top two in each pool will qualify for the quarterfinal knock-out competition. Santhome HSS is the defending champion.

K. Bharathan, former State player, will inaugurate the tournament on January 4 at the St. Bede's ground.

The Groups: A: Santhome HSS, PSSSHS, Maharishi Vidya Mandir, PSBB (TP Road). B: PSBB (KK Nagar), Vidya Mandir SSS B, St. John's, (Villivakkam,) St. Michael's; C: St. Bede's, Don Bosco, Dominic Savio HS, St. Patricks. D: Chettinad Vidyashram, Vidya Mandir SSA, Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram and Lady Andal .

Harish's knock in vain

V. Harish Bharath missed a century (96) as his team S. Railway Institute suffered a two-wicket defeat to Garnet RC in a first division match in the TNCA-Kancheepuram DCA league held recently.

Southern Railway Institute (TBM) 78 in 29.4 overs (Vignesh 30, U. Vishal four for 9) lost to Krishnaraj RC 79 for two in 17.5 overs (M. Vignesh 29).

II Div.: Chromepet CC 101 in 26.5 overs (N. Sathyanarayanan three for 31, S. Palaniraj three for 27) lost to Palavanthangal CC 102 for eight in 28.1 overs (N. Satheesh 27, Sundar three for 20).

Bharath CC 118 for seven in 30 overs drew with Vijay CC 102 for eight in 25 overs (Rain stopped play).

Central Bank of India RC 39 in 15.1 overs (R. Vinoth four for 12) lost to Palavanthangal CC 40 for three in 11.1 overs (S. Sundarrajan three for 15).

Easy for MCC

Arjan Kripal Singh scored 55 to help MCC beat Alumni Club by 69 runs in the Technip India Singaram Trophy cricket tournament here on Sunday.

Naveen bowls well

M. Naveen's three for 14 helped Little Hearts CA post an eight-wicket win over Abdul Jabbar CA in the Prahlad CC under-14 cricket tournament here on Sunday.
