DINDIGUL: The Pattali Makkal Katchi will hold State-wide agitation after Assembly elections demanding 20 per cent reservation for the Vanniyar community, MBC status for Vanniyar Christians and against liquor shops, party founder S. Ramadoss told a district-level conference held in Nallampatti village near here on Monday. While women's wing of the party will hold agitation demanding closure of liquor shops, partymen will fight for 20 per cent reservation, he said. Sharp increase in sale of liquor and the resulting massive revenue to the exchequer could not be taken as yardstick for development of the State. Level of education and uplift of people from below poverty level are the real parameters to judge development of the State. Many people from the Vanniyar community could not occupy high offices owing to lack of education. After implementation of reservation, the community had produced 250 doctors, he said. The higher education academy being run by the Vanniyar Trust in Villupuram would give priority to children of party workers. “You send us your children after graduation. We will mould them as IPS and IAS officers in our institutions,” Dr. Ramadoss said.
