Collector's directive to Bayer company

VIJAYAWADA: Joint Collector Guarav Uppal has asked Bayer company to pay compensation to farmers affected by spurious Bt cotton seed.

Speaking at a meeting held to discuss the compensation package with representatives of the company and a district-level committee, he said that farmers in Penuganchiprolu, Vatsavai and Chanderlapadu used the seed in nearly 2, 200 acres. Only farmers who cultivated the crop using the fake seed supplied by the Bayer company incurred crop loss, he said. To look into these matters, a committee was constituted with scientists and farmers. It found that spurious seed was the reason for crop loss, he said.
