Church festival begins

KOLLAM: The eleven-day long annual Infant Jesus festival of the Moothakara Saint Peter's parish church began on Tuesday with the parish priest John Britto hoisting the festival flag at 5 p.m.

This was followed by mass with Vaddy parish priest George Mathew as the chief celebrant.

The festival programme on all the eleven days will begin with the holy mass at 7 a.m.

A procession bearing the statue of the Infant Jesus will be held in the evening of January 13.

The procession will pass through Vaddy junction, Lakshminada, Kallupaalam, Canal Road, Thoppe, Coastal Road, Jonakapuram and return to the Moothakara church.

On the main festival day of January 14, Kollam Bishop Stanly Roman will be the chief celebrant of a pontifical high mass at the church at 9.30 a.m.

Social feast

This will be followed by a social feast.

The festival public meeting at 5.30 p.m. will be presided over by Mayor Prasanna Earnest.

It will be inaugurated by Bishop Emeritus of Kollam Joseph G. Fernandez.
