BERHAMPUR: A trader was shot dead by Maoists at Bhramarbari village under Daringbadi block in Kandhamal district on Tuesday morning. The deceased was Udaynath Sahu, a trader of forest produce who also owned a grocery shop at the village. According to sources around six armed Maoists reached his house at around 10 a.m. He was dragged out and shot from close range. He died at the spot. The whole village was so terror stuck by this broad daylight cold blooded murder by the miscreants that no one except the wife and the children of the deceased dared to reach near the body even after departure of the armed miscreants . According to assistant sub-inspector of police Prakash Chandra Bisoi, who reached the spot three rounds had been fired from point blank range at the trader. The whole Bhramapur village remained deserted after the incident. Security personnel from Daringbadi had to take precautionary measures to reach the spot . So, the body of the victim remained on the road for almost five hours. Sahu had received threats from Maoists twice in the past. Maoists murdered the trader alleging him to be a police informer. It is also suspected that Maoists may have indulged in this murder to use their terror tactics to extort from traders of forest produce in remote areas of Kandhamal district. In recent past there have been a surge in violent activities of Maoists in Daringbadi block. On November 25 evening the ultras had shot dead a construction contractor Manoj Sahu at a crowded market at Brahmanigaon of this block.
