Young Challenging Cricketers posts huge victory

BANGALORE: Young Challenging Cricketers (YCC) romped to a 265-run win over Malleswaram Cricket Club in the KSCA metro shield (Group I, Division IV) here recently.

Young Challenging Cricketers 353 for eight in 50 overs (M.A. Akarsh 87, C. Sunil 50, M.S. Vinay 41, R. Madhusudan 39, C. Madhusudan 38, P. Chandrashekar 28, Prashanth Hajeri four for 105) bt Malleswaram SC 88 in 20.3 overs (Deepak Kaushik three for 10).

Friends XI (Doddaballapur) 166 in 39.2 overs (Virender 47 n.o., R. Vinay four for 30, M.P. Sirish three for 35, Nagendra three for 41) lost to Hammonds 167 for eight in 49 overs (V.R. Milind 42, K. Bhuvanesh 32 n.o., Srikanth 30, Mohammed Nareeruddin four for 27).

Hoskote CC 231 in 44.2 overs (S. Santhosh 71, H.S. Shashidar 46, Manjunath Singh 42, Sandeep five for 93) bt Wilson Garden 143 in 41.5 overs (Kuldeep 27, K. Surendra 26, S. Manjunath three for 26).

Ace Cricketers 191 in 43.3 overs (Mithun 51, Lingaraju 28, Vinay 27, Kaushik Udupa three for 56) lost to Sirurpark SC 192 for four in 39.4 overs (A. Dabeet 64, Kaushik Udupa 57, Anurag Bajpai 29).

Friends CC 128 in 39.3 overs (Srinivas 66, Prasad three for 34) lost to Vikram CC 135 for no loss in 15 overs (Pandian 72 n.o., S. Praveen 55 n.o.).

Jeevanbhimanagar CC 68 in 21 overs (P. Srinivasamurthy five for 10, B. Rajashekhar four for 15) lost to Sri Jayachamarajendra CC 71 for one in 13.3 overs (Kuttappa 41 n.o., Kunal 25).

State hockey

The second phase of the Ozonegroup State super division hockey league championship will commence at the KSHA Stadium here on January 8.

A total of 11 teams, including major sides from outside the State, will figure in the competition.

MEG and Canara Bank are also part of the pool after having secured the top two places in the first phase.

BPCL is the defending champion after winning last year's edition held at Madikeri while IOCL finished runner-up.

The teams: BPCL, IOCL, Army Red, Fortis, Army Green, SAI, ASC, MEG, Canara Bank, Namdhari Academy and Air India .

Sandesh shines

Sandesh Yadav's hat-trick propelled GAIL to a 4-1 win over CPCL, in the 29th PSPB inter-unit hockey tournament here on Tuesday.

Yadav struck in the 9th, 24th, and 49th minutes, after P.C. Nayar had put GAIL ahead in the opening minute of the match. K.K. Mani scored the only goal for CPCL, in the 40th minute, as GAIL recovered from defeat in the opening game.

BPCL, meanwhile, claimed its second win on the trot after edging IOCL 4-3 in the day's other match. Gurpreet Singh bagged a brace for the victor.

The results: GAIL 4 (P.C. Nayar 1, Sandesh Yadav 9, 24, 49) bt CPCL 1 (K.K. Mani 40); BPCL 4 (Tushar Khandekar 7, Gurpreet Singh 11, 16, Sher Singh 54) bt IOCL 3 (Prabhjot Singh 29, V.R. Raghunath 52, Deepak Thakur 65) .

SwimLife meet

The third annual SwimLife swimming meet will be held on January 15 and 16 at the St. Joseph's Indian High School pool, Bangalore. The event, a non-medallist one, is open to junior and master swimmers. Entries close on Jan. 12. Call 98451 92047 for details.
