Doping case adjourned till March 7

NEW DELHI: The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) disciplinary panel adjourned a methylhexaneamine doping violation case against 10 sportspersons till March 7.

At the hearing, which resumed here on Wednesday, noted criminal lawyer R.K. Anand, appearing for all the athletes charged, argued that after studying the analytical reports of the samples (provided by the National Dope Testing Laboratory) he needed some time to cross-examine more witnesses.

He had asked for the analytical reports in November last.

Additional witnesses

Mr. Anand said he needed to cross-examine the witnesses as he found, in some cases, that the testing had been done by someone while the confirmation had been given by another person. The list of additional witnesses would be filed within 10 days.

Besides, Mr. Anand also requested for the record of the initial review done by the NADA before it served the first notices to the athletes. The documents regarding this would be provided to him within 15 days. Disciplinary panel chairman Dinesh Dayal allowed Mr. Anand to conduct the cross-examination and set March 7 and 8 as the next dates of hearing.

Of the 10 sportspersons, six are wrestlers, two swimmers and two athletes. Mausam Khatri (96kg freestyle), one of the six wrestlers, had bagged a bronze medal in the Guangzhou Asian Games after he made the Indian team following lifting of the provisional suspension on these athletes. — Principal Correspondent
