Sewer system to be ready by July

PUDUKOTTAI: The underground sewer system for Pudukottai town, being executed by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board, would be ready for commissioning by July, said Hitesh Kumar Makwana, Joint Managing Director, TWAD Board, here on Wednesday.
The underground sewage for Perambalur town, being executed by the Board, would be completed by August or September, Mr.Makwana told The Hindu after inspecting the work in the two towns.
The underground drainage for Pudukottai is being implemented at Rs.48.16 crore. Mr.Makwana, accompanied by A.Suganthi, Collector, inspected the works on the construction of a sewage treatment plant and the laying of sewer lines at Railway Station Road, Periyar Nagar, Marthandapuram, East Raja Veedhi, Machuvadi and other parts of the town. Sewer lines are being laid for about 159 km under the project. Sankara Subramanian, Chief Engineer, TWAD Board, and K.Balakrishnan, Commissioner, Perambalur Municipality, were present.
Later, Mr.Makwana inspected the works at the underground sewage in Perambalur sanctioned at Rs.23.38 crore. Accompanied by M.Vijayakumar, Collector, he inspected the progress of construction of sewage treatment plant near Thuraimangalam. M.N.Raja, Commissioner, Perambalur Municipality, and other officials were present.
