Vehicles for civic works

CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation has procured 356 vehicles at a total cost of Rs.43.93 crore in the past four years for executing various civic works, said Mayor M. Subramanian here on Wednesday.

He was speaking at a function to give away 11 vehicles to the assistant health officers and the veterinary officer at Ripon building. Each vehicle cost Rs.6.54 lakh. A total of 186 compactors have been procured so far at a cost of Rs.31 crore to carry out conservancy operations in an efficient manner, he said.

On the other works of Chennai Corporation, he said that the civic body was taking measures to create parks in the Rs.3,500 crore worth open space reservation lands retrieved in the past four years. Garbage transfer stations in 10 zones have been provided at a total cost of Rs. 20 crore.
