Thousands bid farewell to Suri

Last rites performed amidst tight security at Maddelacheruvu village

DISTRAUGHT:Bhanumathi, widow of Suri, bids farewell to her husband along with her son at Maddelacheruvu village in Anantapur district on Wednesday.

Anantapur: Thousands of supporters, friends and relatives including Gangula Bhanumathi, widow of Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Maddelacheruvu Suri bid a tearful farewell to Suri at Maddelacheruvu village in the district on Wednesday afternoon.

The last rites were performed amidst tight security and in the presence of several Congress leaders including MP Anantha Venkataram Reddy, Zilla Parishad chairperson Topudurthi Kavitha, District Congress Committee president Patilvenugopal Reddy, J.C. Prabhakar Reddy and Anantapur MLA B. Gurunath Reddy.

Numbers swell

Hundreds of people from nearby villages had been visiting the village to pay their last respects to Suri since Tuesday evening.

The numbers swelled by the time the burial ceremony was over.

With all the visitors leaving after burial, uneasy silence prevailed in the village.
