VELLORE: Five hundred students from 35 colleges in India participated in the International Conference on ‘Gene Therapy and Phytotherapy in Modern Medicine' organised at the Adhiparasakthi College of Arts and Science at Kalavai on Tuesday. Pradheep Chhalliyil, Senior Scientist, Genetic-ID Inc., U.S., who delivered a special lecture on ‘Gene Therapy', stressed the significance of gene therapy in modern medicine, in treating inherited disorders. Senthil Kumar Thangaraj, Junior Scientist, Max Plant Research Unit, Halle, Germany delivered a special lecture on ‘Alzheimer's Disorders and Therapeutic Approach for the same'. U.V. Babu, Head, Agrotech and Phytochemistry, R & D Centre, Himalaya Drug Company, Bangalore delivered a special lecture on ‘Isolation, Separation and Purification of Phytochemicals in Modern Medicine'. S. Ayyasamy, Assistant Professor, Government Siddha Medical College, Chennai delivered a special lecture on ‘Phytotherapy in Skin Diseases'. M. Jayanthi, Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Adhiparasakthi College of Arts and Science, welcomed the gathering. A. Mohamed Sadiq, Principal of the college, presided. R. Bhavani, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry, proposed a vote of thanks. Thirty research papers were presented by research scholars and staff from various parts of India.
