CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation will soon complete review meetings in all its zones for inclusion of more streets in the stormwater drain network, said Mayor M. Subramanian. Speaking to media persons after reviewing the progress of the stormwater drain work under JNNURM here on Thursday, he said seven new streets have already been included in the project by obtaining feedback from residents and councillors. Under the JNNURM 1,202 works are being carried out by the Corporation for construction of stormwater drains. The details of completed works under the project will be available in the Corporation website, said Mr. Subramanian. Storm water drains have been constructed along 34.18 km so far under the project by the civic body at a cost of Rs.29.49 crore. A total of 532.54 km of drains are being proposed to be constructed by the Corporation. The Public Works Department would undertake the rest of the Rs.1,448 crore project. The Chennai Corporation has asked the contractors of the stormwater drain project to begin the project that has been suspended for a few weeks on account of the rains. A special flying squad to monitor the work would be constituted, said Mr. Subramanian. Fortnightly review of the progress of the work will be conducted by the Corporation Commissioner to ensure speedy completion of the project, he added.
