Coimbatore: A mock disaster management drill was conducted at the Bharat Petroleum Corporation's Limited (BPCL) Irugur installation recently as part of the Disaster Control Management Plan. It was to assess the preparedness and efficiency of the agencies concerned and to address the problems detected during the drill. The drill was conducted in the presence of K. Kaliannan, Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories-Coimbatore and V. Mohan Nair – Territory Manager (Retail) – Coimbatore. Stakeholders in the industry M. Chandran (Manager – Operations) of IOCL, T.P. Premnath – Territory Co-ordinator of LPG Plant – BPCL, Adhavan – Assistant Manager of Petronet CCK Limited and Gunaseelan – GM (Marketing) were present. An imaginary fire scenario was create in one of the storage tanks due to leakage of petrol in the pipe line joint and the fire was fought by BPCL employees. The teams were led by S.N.M. Nemani – Senior Installation Manager and I. Mohammed Ali – Safety Officer. After the drill, a review was conducted to analyse the performance and identify the shortfalls in the drill for improving them.
