Workshop on radiation hazards

Training to held on Jan 8 and 9


COIMBATORE: The risk of radiation hazards faced by not only patients, but also doctors, technicians and nurses in catheterisation laboratories will be highlighted at a workshop to be held in the city on January 8 and 9 by PSG College of Technology, PSG Hospitals and NorthShore University Health Systems in the U.S.

This is the second edition of the International Workshop on Radiation Protection for Interventionists and NRPs (non-radiologist physicians), Interventional Cardiologist and Medical Director (Super Speciality Hospital) at PSG Hospital J.S. Bhuvaneswaran and Professor of Medical Physics at PSG College of Technology K.N. Govinda Rajan have said in a press release.

Radiation protection

Radiation protection training was mandatory in Europe countries for interventionists (such as cardiologists who perform angiography and angioplasty), and the NRPs who used fluoroscopy units for diagnosis or image guidance. Other advanced countries were also training physicians through fluoroscopy credentialing procedures.

Apart from interventional cardiologists and radiologists, the workshop was being held for all orthopaedic surgeons, gastroenterologists and urologists who used fluoroscopy machines for diagnosis and treatment.

Topics

Some of the topics to be covered at the workshop are Interventional Cardiology Practice in India, Vascular and Interventional Radiology Practice in India, Fluoroscopy Practice in Other Medical Specialities, Evolution of Radiation Protection in Medicine and Biological Effects of Radiation.
