Former hockey player passes away
Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu and Railways hockey player Mohammed Abdul Nabi passed away in Nagercoil on Friday afternoon. He was 70.
Nabi is survived by three sons and two daughters. One of his sons, Mohammed Riaz, was a former Indian team centre-half and an Olympian.
An accomplished inside-forward, Nabi was a valuable member of the State team and the Railways in the 60s. After retiring as a player, he became a successful coach and made a mark as an international umpire.
A popular personality, Nabi helped conduct various leagues of the Tamil Nadu Hockey Association in Chennai. — Special Correspondent
