Jammu: The 300 km-long Jammu-Srinagar Highway, the only road link to Kashmir valley, was reopened for one-way traffic on Sunday, a day after it was closed due to snowfall near Jawahar Tunnel in Qazigund. “The highway was reopened after clearing the snow at Jawahar Tunnel area. But the movement of the vehicles was slow as highway was slippery,” a Police Control Room (PCR) official told PTI. All stranded vehicles, have been cleared, and Border Road Organisation is working round the clock to clear the snow and restore two-way traffic — PTIHowever, continuous snowfall has made the task difficult. The Rastriya Rifles, CRPF and police personnel at Jawahar Tunnel and Qazigund are assisting the passengers and trying to clear vehicles, the official said. However, heavy traffic jams were witnessed at Udhampur, Samroli, Kud, Patnitop, Batote and Ramban areas due slippery stretches and stranding of vehicles. A heavy blanket of fog enveloping Jammu plains is also hampering traffic movement.Even train movement has been disrupted. — PTI
