Comparative study: Noted poet G.S. Siddalingiah inaugurating a workshop at the JSS College of Pharmacy in Udhagamandalam on Monday. Udhagamandalam: A two-day workshop on “Relationship of Language and Literature” with particular reference to Tamil and Kannada jointly organised by the Karnataka Sahitya Academy, Mysore and the JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysore, got under way at the JSS College of Pharmacy here on Monday. Inaugurating the workshop, noted Kannada poet and former President of Karnataka Sahitya Parishad G.S. Siddalingiah described Kannada and Tamil as sisters and added that they complement each other in developing Dravidian culture. Underscoring the contribution of River Cauvery in intertwining the Kannada and Tamil cultures, he said that it starts in Karnataka and flows through Tamil Nadu before entering Kerala. M.H. Krishnaiah, President, Karnataka Sahithya Academy who presided emphasised the importance of comparative studies. H.M. Maheshwariya, former Director, Institute of Kannada Studies said that Tamil and Kannada had many similarities. About 50 Kannada and Tamil scholars are participating in the workshop.
