A battle for ration card in Ramnad

Special Correspondent

RAMANATHAPURAM: A battle for getting the ration card for Sabara Banu (35), a physically challenged woman, has been continuing for the last four years ever since she married to a differently abled person.

She claimed that though she along with her husband Abdul Rahim (35) had visited the taluk and other offices many times since March 2007, she was yet to receive the family card.

“ In spite of our high percentage of disability, we have visited many offices, particularly the section concerned in taluk office, several times, but in vain,” said Mrs. Banu, who met Collector T.N. Hariharan on Monday and narrated her problems.

Mr. Rahim, father of three-year-old child, said whenever they visited the offices the officials asked them to apply again stating that they could not locate the file. Though they followed their instructions, no action had been taken so far. When they insisted, the officials had demanded them to provide proof for leading a family life. Since they are living in a small hut at Panaikulam, they could not provide a proof.

Mr. Hariharan, who listened to the grievances, promised that he would look into the issue.
