STUDENTS' FETE: A cultural procession that began from Edathitta, near Kodumon, on Monday as part of the inaugural of the Pathanamthitta Revenue district schools arts festival; and (right) the St. Teresa's High School team that won the first prize in the band contest held as part of the festival, on Monday.
PATHANAMTHITTA: The Pathanamthitta revenue district schools arts festival got off to a colourful start at Shaktibhadran Nagar (Government High School grounds) at Kodumon, near here, on Monday.
Adoor Prakash, MLA, lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the inauguration of the five-day cultural festival.
District panchayat president Babu George, who presided, said organisers of the youth festival should make all efforts to make it a venue for promoting the budding cultural talents in young children, shunning unhealthy competition.
P. Vijayamma, district panchayat vice-president; Pazhakulam Madhu, standing committee (Education) chairman; Robin Peter, Saji Chacko, members; A. Vijayan Nair, Kodumon grama panchayat president; T.P. Sivaraman, Deputy Director of Education; A. Santhakumari, former district panchayat president; and Kodumon Gopinathan Nair, former Plantation Corporation of Kerala chairman; were among those who spoke.
A cultural procession that began from Edathitta, near Kodumon, was flagged off by District Superintendent of Police K. Sanjaykumar.
The cultural competitions as part of the youth festival will be held at five different venues.
