Electoral roll released

TIRUNELVELI: The summary revision draft electoral rolls of the district released here on Monday by District Collector M. Jayaraman showed an increase of 42,662 voters taking the total number of voters in the district to 19,42,405 that includes 9,70,325 men and 9,72,080 women voters.

Speaking to reporters after releasing the photo electoral rolls, Dr. Jayaraman said voters who have completed 18 years of age on January 1, 2011 had been included in the photo electoral rolls released on Monday.

Corporation Commissioner N. Subbaiyan, District Revenue Officer P. Ramanasaraswathi, Personal Assistant to Collector (Elections) G. Leela and District Public Relations Officer U. Ravindran were present.

Number of voters in the Assembly segments of Tirunelveli district: Sankarankovil – 1,87,862 (men – 93,895 and women – 93,967); Vasudevanallur – 1,82,377 (men – 91,740 and women – 90,637); Kadayanallur – 2,09,446 (men – 1,05,687 and women – 1,03,759), Tenkasi – 2,11,903 (men – 1,06,025 and women – 1,05,878); Alangulam – 1,99,597 (men - 98,230 and women – 1,01,367); Tirunelveli – 1,96,322 (men – 98,376 and women – 97,955); Ambasamudram – 1,89,562 (men – 94,004 and women – 95,558); Palayamkottai – 1,88,572 (men – 94,020 and women – 94,552); Nanguneri – 1,87,196 (men – 93,210 and women – 93,986) and Radhapuram – 1,89,559 (men – 95,138 and women – 94,421).

Tuticorin

The final electoral roll for Tuticorin District was released here on Monday. Sajjansingh R. Chawan, Sub-Collector and Electoral Registration Officer for Tuticorin and Srivaikuntam constituencies released the final roll of electors at the Sub-Collector's office here.

As many as 10, 81, 736 voters from six assembly constituencies are eligible for casting their votes.

Of the total electors, 5, 35, 955 were men and 5, 45, 781 women.

In Vilathikulam Assembly constituency, a total of 1, 72, 477 voters including 86, 369 women; Tuticorin constituency, 2, 09, 128 voters including 1, 04, 355 women were on the list. Among the six assembly constituencies, Tuticorin has its highest mandate for polling.

The total voters for Tiruchendur was 1, 86, 629 (men – 95, 889 and women – 90, 740); Srivaikuntam – 1, 72, 813 (men – 83, 990 and women – 88, 823); Ottapidaram – 1, 63, 343 (men – 82, 125 and women – 81, 218); Kovilpatti – 1, 77, 346 (men – 88, 219 and women – 89, 127).

While J. Ravichandran, Electoral Registration Officer for Kovilpatti, Vilathikulam and Ottapidaram constituencies released the final roll at Kovilpatti, B. Packiam Devakirubai, Electoral Officer for Tiruchendur released the roll at Tiruchendur RDO office.

Out of the 41, 278 electors, who had applied for claims of addition on form 6, 34, 612 were taken into consideration.

The remaining 6, 666 applicants were rejected on various grounds, N. Samuel, Tahsildar (Election), said. During the previous publication of draft rolls, the assembly constituencies across the district registered 10, 47, 550 voters.

Nagercoil

The total number of electorates in Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Colachel, Padmanabhapuram, Vilavancode and Killiyoor Assembly segments in the district were 12,79,281 including 6,30,048 women voters in the district.

The Collector, Rajendra Ratnoo, released the final electoral list, which was received by the revenue divisional officers of Nagercoil and Padmanabhapuram divisions Rajendran and Murugavel respectively.

The number of voters as per the final voter list in Kanyakumari Assembly segment was 2,32,043 including 1,14,308 women, 2,05,422 voters including 1,02,117 women voters in Nagercoil Assembly segment, 2,23,213 voters in Colachel Assembly segment including 1,08,753 women voters, 2,03,393 voters including 99,614 women voters in Padmanabhapuram Assembly segment, 2,05,225 voters including 1,02,056 women voters in Vilavancode Assembly segment and 2,09,985 voters including 1,03,200 women voters in Killiyoor Assembly segment.

The total number of new voters were 33,923 persons including 4,930 new voters in Kanyakumari Assembly segment, 6,600 voters in Nagercoil, 5,701 in Colachel, 5,293 in Padmanabhapuram, 6,208 in Vilavancode and 5,191 in Killiyoor Assembly segments. The district administration had rejected as many as 325 applications.

National Voters day

As directed by the Election Commission, January 25 would be celebrated as National Voters Day and the newly enrolled voters would be given their voter's identity card on that day at the respective polling booths, Mr. Ratnoo said.
