CHENNAI: With a view to promote meaningful inter-State understanding and cultural exchange, the committee for heritage and culture in the Indian Railways kicked off a two-day cultural festival ‘Sanskriti yatra' at the Raja Annamalai Mandram on Monday. The festival, which is mooted to serve as a bridge between luminaries in the field of art from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, will showcase the classical dance forms of Bharatnatyam, Kathakali and Mohiniattam.

Carnatic concerts and dramas on historical and social themes are also part of the schedule. All the programmes will be free and open for all.

Opportunity for children

Apart from eminent artists, railway employees and their wards will also be given an opportunity to showcase their talents, a Southern Railway official said.

Artists Padma Subramaniam (dance), Thiruvarur Bakthavathsalam (mridangam) and Delhi Ganesh (drama) would be honoured during the course of the festival.

Southern Railway General Manager Deepak Krishan participated in the event and also inaugurated an exhibition displaying ethnic handicrafts from various parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
