MADURAI: Collector C. Kamaraj released the final voter list of the district on Monday.

Speaking to reporters, he said that a total of 19,73,976 voters — 9,86,872 men and 9,87,104 women voters — had been covered in 10 Assembly segments of the district such as Melur, Madurai East, Sholavandan, Madurai North, Madurai South, Madurai Central, Madurai West, Tirupparankundram, Tirumangalam and Usilampatti. The draft roll, released on October 25, had 19,25,126 voters — 9,62,201 men and 9,62,925 women.

Following a directive from the Election Commission of India, applications were accepted from eligible persons from October 25 to November 13 for inclusion of names, deletion and alterations such as change in address among others.

Out of the 63,565 claims received, 56,243 were accepted in the latest enumeration drive taking the final tally to 19,73,976.

As many as 7,393 claims were deleted, including suo moto deletions.

Smallest and biggest

Madurai South Assembly segment was the smallest constituency with 1,70,952 voters and Madurai East the biggest with 2,25,311 voters.

Mr. Kamaraj said that the district administration hoped to release the Electors' Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to all eligible voters as early as possible.

Over 99 per cent of the voters had received them. The rest would get them soon, he said.

Corporation Deputy Commissioner K. Tharpagaraj, among other officials, was present.
