Residents demand amenities
TAMBARAM: A sudden protest by several dozen displaced families was held inside Tambaram Taluk office on Monday morning. The families were originally living around Thaangal Lake in West Tambaram and their houses were demolished during a drive against encroachments in 2008. The State government had provided alternative housing sites along Tambaram – Somangalam Road then and their new locality was called Samathuva Periyar Nagar. However, even more than two years after the alternative housing sites were provided to them, the locality did not witness any improvement in quality of basic amenities. Even now, they were deprived of drinking water and power supply, sanitation facilities and land ownership rights.
