SBOA triumphs

CHENNAI: Last year's champion SBOA School & Junior College lifted the K.C. Tech Trophy for the overall honours in the second KC Tech-Ys Men Club of Mylapore inter-school athletic meet here on Monday. Pachaiyappa's College HSS (Broadway) finished runner-up.

The girls' overall trophy went to Lady Sivasamy HSS and Pachaiyappa's College HSS (Broadway) boys. The championship trophy for the differently-abled students was secured by BKN Opportunity School for Mentally Challenged.

Individual champions: Sub-junior: Boys: Raja Nidhi Murugan (Pachaiyappa's); Girls: B. Varsha (TST Rajan HSS).

Junior: Boys: T. Vasantha Kumar (Velammal); Girls: Berly Hudson (CSI Jesse Moses).

Senior: Boys: K. Premkumar (Pachaiyappas); Girls: M. Jeyashamily (Anderson Rajagopal) .

IOB records facile win

IOB registered a comfortable win over Tamil Nadu Police in the SRM-Chennai district ‘A' division league here on Monday. IOB won 25-16, 25-15, 25-16.

In the women's section, St. Joseph's Engineering College and Dr. Sivanthi Club continued their unbeaten streak.

Men: Southern Railway bt Sathyabama 28-26, 25-18, 25-16; Indian Bank bt BSNL 25-17, 25-20, 25-23.

Women: St. Joseph's bt GKM Club 25-19, 25-13; Dr. Sivanthi Club bt Armed Police 25-23, 25-23 .

S. Rly women win

Geethu Anna Jose (24 points) helped Southern Railway win the women's final of the annual State-level basketball tournament on Sunday.

Chennai Customs won the men's title with a 62-50 win over Indian Bank.

The results (finals):

Men: Chennai Customs 62 (Vinoth 18, Saravan 11) bt Indian Bank 50 (Amarnath Gopi 19, Puvaneswaran 12).

Women: Southern Railways 41 (Geethu Anna Jose 24) bt Rising Star 27 (Sangeetha 13, Apoorva 12) .

Veterans' tennis

The Rs 9.16 lakh prize money T.S. Santhanam memorial national veterans' tennis championship is to be conducted by the Mylapore Club from January 31 to February 5. Madras Auto Service, Brakes India, India Motor Parts and Accessories ltd and Sundaram Finance are the sponsors for the championship. In all there are five events — five singles and five doubles (age 45 plus, 50 plus, 55 plus, 60 plus and 65 plus). The qualifying phase will be conducted on January 29 and 30.
