VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra University (AU) claimed the all-India inter-zone inter-University kho-kho title for men for the first time when it beat University of Mumbai 12-11 in the final at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Univesity, Etcherla, near Srikakulam on Tuesday. University of Calicut downed Mangalore University 8-7 to take the third place. Mumbai gave a good fight, but AU maintained an upper hand throughout the final. Mumbai scored five runs when it started chasing, but AU ran out nine Mumbai players during its turn to finish the first innings with a 9-5 lead. Mumbai managed seven runs in the second half, but that was not enough as AU quickly scored three runs to take the winning lead. K. Appa Rao and K. Rajesh shone for AU in both running and chasing, while K.L. Appa Rao was impressive. AU earlier won the South-West Zone title and Mumbai was runner-up. The following received special jury awards: Best all-rounder: K. Appa Rao (AU); Best chaser: K.L. Papa Rao (AU); Best defender: Aniil Kaisar (Mumbai) .
