Coimbatore: Andhra maintained its champion status winning the 16th South Zone cricket championship for the deaf for the fifth year in a row at the PSG Medical College grounds here on Tuesday. It was a two-way tie between Andhra and Tamil Nadu at the top of the table. Both teams finished with three wins apiece, but Andhra took the title on better run average. The scores: League: Karnataka 101 in 19.2 overs (Sunder two for 17, Vinod Kumar two for 19, J. Sudheer two for 14) lost to Tamil Nadu 102 for five in 17.4 overs (Manjunath three for 11); Andhra 110 for seven in 20 overs (Rajesh Paul 34, Habeebuddin 31, J. Arogyam three for 15) lost to Kerala 112 for nine in 16 overs (Mohammed Tarbeez four for 16, Syed Riyaz two for 15); Kerala 151 in 19.1 overs (Sibi 34, Sugumaran three for 19) lost to Puducherry 154 for seven in 20 overs (M. Mohan 57 n.o., Prasanna 45, C.V. Sathesh three for 20). Final standings: 1. Andhra 516/ 80 (6.45); 2. Tamil Nadu 424/ 71 (5.97); 3. Karnataka. Special awards: Best batsman: K. Prabhu (Tamil Nadu). Best bowler: B.P. Dayananda (Karnataka). Best all-rounder and Man-of-the-Series: Rajesh Paul (Andhra) .
