Kolkata: With memories of the capsize of an overloaded trawler still fresh, the State Government has cautioned the district administration to maintain a vigil against overcrowding of boats during the pilgrimage at Sagar islands in the Sundarbans during Makara Sankranti this weekend. After returning from a spot visit to check the arrangements, Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh told reporters that caution would have to be exercised to check overloading of vessels. The trawler accident in October in the Muriganga river, also in the Sundarbans had killed over 80 people.Thousands converge at the confluence of the Hooghly river and the Bay of Bengal to take a pre-dawn dip that they believe, will absolve them of all their sins.
