Correspondent

SIRSI: Campco has no objection to the ban on plastic being used for packaging gutka, said Campco president Konkodi Padmanabha in a release on Wednesday.

A memorandum will be submitted regarding the issue to the Karnataka High Court by Campco Mangalore, Mamcos Tirthhalli and Totgars Co-operative Sales Society Sirsi (TCSS), he said.

The Guajrat High Court in its verdict banned plastic in gutka packing.

But the gutka companies had appealed to High Court to reconsider, he said and added that the areca growers should also be consulted before imposing the ban.

At a meeting held earlier, a decision was taken to set up a panel under the leadership of TCSS president Shantaram Hegde to bring the issue to the notice of the ministers concerned and officials so that it could be taken up with the Centre and a decision was taken to arrange a meeting of MPs of areca-growing areas by Campco.
