Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Mumbai-based theatre personality Ayesha Nair will receive the prestigious Shyamanand Jalan National Youth Theatre Award (SJNYTA-2011) at Shyamanand's “Intimate Theatre” at Padatik Buildwell Theatre in Kolkata this Thursday.
Ayesha has been working with Jamini Pathak since 2006, starting with the play “Once Upon a…Tiger”. The play has gone on to complete 100 shows. Recently she was seen in “Dirty Talk” in Manchester as part of a youth theatre exchange.
Ayesha has been working with children's theatre as well as Marathi theatre.
The SJNYTA scheme is an award of Rs.25,000 to be presented every year on January 13. The award is for original scripts from Indian playwrights aged between 18 and 25 years.
Under the SJNYTA scheme, an eminent jury comprising Rajinder Nath (Delhi), Santawana Nigam (Delhi) and Prof. Ananda Lal (Kolkata) decided to award Ayesha Nair the SJNYTA-2011 award.
Padatik's president Bishwambhar Dayal Sureka will present the award to Ayesha in the presence of the eminent jury. It will be followed by a panel discussion on “Indian Playwriting: Contexts for the future”.
Shyamanand Jalan passed away in May 2010 leaving the Padatik family bereft but with a wonderful legacy.
