‘Mother Express' arrives

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: ‘Mother Express', an exhibition on rails showcasing the life and the work of Mother Teresa through several photographs, arrived on platform number 7 in the railway station here on Wednesday for a two-day halt. The exhibition, which provides an insight into the service activities of the Mother, was formally inaugurated by Additional Divisional Railway Manager B. Jayaraj.

The Indian Railways is running the three-coach exhibition train as a special gesture to mark the centenary of Mother Teresa. It is also intended to spread the message of humanity, sacrifice and charity to which the Mother dedicated her whole life by serving the poor and the helpless.

Designed by the Committee of Heritage and Culture of the Ministry of Railways, the train brings alive the life and times of the Mother through rare photographs culled out from the archives.

The expo, which was flagged off from Sealdah station by Minister for Railways Mamata Banerjee on August 26 last year, would cover nearly 83 stations across India before ending its journey in Bihar on February 26.

The exhibition also has write-ups and literature highlighting the work and message of the Mother. On the day of inauguration, a large number of people, including school children, visited the exhibition, for which there is no entry fee.

The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
