DGP orders probe into custodial death

PANAJI: The Goa Director-General of Police B.S. Bassi on Thursday ordered an inquiry by a gazetted police officer in the “Cipriano custodial death case” on Thursday.
The Police Department moved into action following reports on Thursday that the State Police complaints authority had taken suo motu cognisance of the “Cipriano custodial death case”.
The post-mortem report of Cipriano's body was submitted to the police by the Forensic Department on Thursday. However, the police withheld the report. The aggrieved family members of Cipriano Fernandes, who died in police custody, refused to remove his body till justice was done. In a memorandum, family members of the victimreiterated their demand for a judicial inquiry into the death.
