Paddy with 20 per cent moisture content procured with grade cuts

‘TNCSC may purchase 3 to 3.5 lakh tonnes of paddy this year'

TIRUVARUR: It is expected that 3 to 3.5lakh tonnes of samba paddy may be procured in the district this year, said M.Chandrasekaran, Collector, here on Friday.

DPCs

He was inspecting the Direct Purchase Centre (DPC) of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) at Kunniyur near here.

A total of 379 DPCs are functioning at present and 42,835 tonnes of paddy had been procured, since last October. There are 29 DPCs in Tiruvarur taluk; 34 in Nannilam taluk; 66 in Kodavasal taluk; 47 in Valangaiman; 51 in Needamangalam; 100 in Mannargudi and 47 in Thiruthuraipoondi.

Paddy with moisture content of up to 20 per cent is procured with proportional grade cuts. For paddy with moisture content up to 17 to 18 per cent — Rs.12.10 would be the grade cut per quintal for fine variety and Rs.11.58 per quintal for common variety.

For moisture content up to 18 to 19 per cent — grade cut is Rs.24.20 and Rs.23.10 respectively and for paddy with moisture content up to 19 to 20 per cent, the cut is Rs.36.30 and Rs.34.65.

For paddy which is discoloured and sprouted the grade cut is Rs.11 and Rs.19 per quintal.

The procurement price is Rs.1, 050 per quintal for the common variety and Rs.1, 100 for fine variety. Samba crop has been raised on 1,44,000 hectares.

At the doorsteps

Places where farmers have more than 300 bags of paddy TNCSC procures them directly, Collector said, and appealed to farmers to utilise the opportunity and sell their crops .
