Tirupur: Valam, a non-governmental organisation begun as an entrepreneur's initiative to improve infrastructure in Tirupur city, will observe Pongal celebrations on the banks of River Noyyal from January 15 to 17. Beautification A.T. Ganesan, Valam trustee and Noyyal River Project Committee member, said that the festivities would be held on the sides of the river stretch from Anaikadu to Valarmathi bridge, where the organisation had taken up desilting and beautification works at a cost of Rs. 1 crore. The organisers had arranged an array of programmes to showcase traditional art forms like karagattam, which is one of the oldest versions of folk dances in Tamil Nadu, and kavadiattam, besides observing farmer's day on January 16.
