Onion to be sold for Rs. 33 a kg at rythu bazars

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: Onions will be sold at Rs. 33 per kg at all the four rythu bazars from Monday as against the prevailing market price of Rs. 40. District officials are making efforts to further offer a subsidy of Rs. 3 per kg by consulting higher authorities.

Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal says that consumers will get high quality Maharashtra onion at Rs. 30 per kg if the subsidy component is allowed and this price will continue for over a week or 10 days till there is perceptible stabilisation of prices.

Likewise, Madanapalli tomato will be sold at a lesser price of Rs. 28 per kg from Sunday.

Following directions from the government, Mr. Uppal held a review meeting with wholesale dealers of vegetables, foodgrains and pulses on Friday to seek their support for market intervention to provide reprieve to the public from skyrocketing prices.

Black gram will be sold at Rs. 58 per kg, palm oil at Rs. 58 per litre, sunflower oil at Rs. 74 per litre, groundnut oil at Rs. 74 per litre and sona masuri rice at Rs. 22 per kg.
