SRM and Anna University win titles

The winners:SRM University's men's team and Anna University's women's team pose with their trophies.

CHENNAI: SRM University and Anna University — both Chennai teams — clinched the men's and women's titles respectively in the all-India inter-university ball badminton tournament at SRM University (Kattankulathur) near here on Friday.

While Anna University women's team maintained a clean slate, winning all its three matches in the semifinal league to emerge a deserving winner, SRM University was involved in a two-way tie in the men's section with Anna University. As SRM and Anna University finished with two wins each (six points each), SRM was declared winner on the basis of better points ratio (63-39).

SRM University Pro-Chancellor M. Ravi gave away the prizes.

The results (semifinal league): Men: SRM bt Anna 29-21, 29-11; Annamalai bt Mangalore 29-24, 21-29, 29-18; SRM bt Mangalore 29-16, 29-18; Anna bt Annamalai 29-16, 29-28; Anna bt Mangalore 29-25, 29-17; Annamalai bt SRM 29-24, 29-24.

Women: Anna bt Mangalore 29-1, 29-20; University of Madras bt SRM 29-28, 29-17; Anna bt University of Madras 29-8, 29-13; Mangalore bt SRM 29-27, 28-29, 29-19; Mangalore bt University of Madras 29-10, 29-14; Anna bt SRM 29-13, 29-14.

Final position: Men: 1. SRM, 2. Anna, 3. Annamalai; Women: 1. Anna, 2. Mangalore, 3. Madras .

Tennis tournament

The Krishnan Tennis Centre will conduct the BSNL junior tennis tournament from January 31 to February 5. Events will be held in singles for under-14 boys and girls. Entries close on January 24 and for details, call 94447 84704.

Viswanathan scalps five

G. Viswanathan took five wickets and scored 30 runs to help St. Patricks CA defeat Sanakara CA by three wickets in the CSCA Super League under-12 cricket tournament, here on Friday.

The scores: Sankara CA 91 in 25 overs (G. Viswanathan five for 10) lost to St. Patrick's CA 92 for seven in 15 overs (G. Viswanathan 30, Antony 25 n.o.); Chennai Stars CA ‘B' 67 for eight in 25 overs lost to Future Stars CA 68 for no loss in 9.1 overs .

Kishore shines

Kishore bagged three wickets for six runs to help MCCHSS to a 78-run win over St Mary's MHSS in a match in the Vel's- TSN T20 rolling trophy cricket tournament here on Friday.

The scores: MCC HSS 198 for four in 20 overs (M. Raghul 68, P. Arun 33, N. Binoy Patel 33) bt St. Mary's MHSS, Perambur 120 in 14.5 overs (Kishore three for 6).

St. Bede's A.I.HSS 237 for three in 20 overs (B. Aparajith 90, M. Shah Rukh Khan 45, B. Indrajith 41, Akil Srinath 41) bt Sri Sankara Vidyalaya, Pammal 94 for six in 20 overs (S. Chandra Sekar 36 not out).

Badminton tournament

The Friends Sports Club is organising a day-long Pongal shuttle badminton tournament at the Ambattur indoor stadium on January 23. It is a non-medallist doubles event with cash prize and trophy till the fourth place. Kabaddi meet
