CPDCL hopeful of meeting 100-day deadline

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: At least five out of the twelve 33/11-KV substations in the city proposed to be commissioned by the Central Discom in the coming 100 days as directed by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy have been overdue for quite some time.

An earlier report by APTransco notified the Programmed Date of Completion as October, 2010, for four substations, construction of which began in March-April, 2010.

These substations, at Malakpet Market Yard, Mothimahal, Hakimpet Kunta and Mayurinagar, figured again in the 100-day list with varying deadlines before March 31, 2011.

Another substation at KIMS was due in December, 2010, but has been rescheduled to February 28.

Even the fresh date of commissioning is not honoured in some cases.

Only Hakimpet Kunta substation has been commissioned before its due date. Launch of Malakpet Market Yard and Mayurinagar substations, despite the latest deadline of December 31, has been further postponed to January. Renewed due-date for Mothimahal substation stands at January 31.

Thanks to the 100-day deadline, CPDCL is now hopeful of finishing other projects too, as there will not be delay in obtaining road-cutting permissions from the GHMC.

Coordination lacking

“Projects are stranded or unduly delayed due to lack of road-cutting permissions from the GHMC.

There is utter lack of coordination between these two departments, and the result is delay for months in getting permissions, and completing the projects,” says a senior official from the Metro Zone.

Other 33/11-KV substations proposed to be completed before March 31, 2011, are located at IICT(Tarnaka), Boduppal, Nagole, Ranga Re ddy District Court, Jalpally, Errum Manzil Colony, and Begumpet.

Summer loads

If completed as per schedule, these substations are expected to provide an effective bulwark against the summer loads.

In addition, Metro Zone proposes to replace nearly 300 concrete block-plinths holding the distribution transformers with single-column plinths.

The plinths will be eight feet above the ground and well beyond the reach of children, the officials said.

Fencing

About 200 transformers will be fenced with flexi-boards by a private advertising company the CPDCL has signed an agreement with.

All low-tension fuse boxes will be replaced with plastic ones, and iron poles will be re-painted to improve the look.

Other proposals

Other proposals for the 100-day programme include augmentation of 23 power transformers in various substations, laying of interlinking lines, erection of 778 distribution transformers and aerial-bunched cabling in areas of high tree-growth among others.
