Meet on Dalit literature inaugurated

Correspondent

‘Oppressed classes should unite for

the progress of

the State'

Chamarajanagar: The former president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat Chandrashekara Patil has said the Dalit Sahitya, Samskrutika Kala Saptha will send a new message to society that the oppressed classes should unite for the progress of the State.

Inaugurating the second convention on Dalit literature, culture and art here on Monday, he said the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS), Raitha Sangha and Kannada organisations had been successful in creating awareness among the people about the State Government's misdeeds. Later, the organisations' agitation lost focus owing to the personnel differences among the leaders, he alleged. He alleged that efforts were made by some political leaders to weaken the organisations.

Writer Devanuru Mahadeva said the recent scams involving politicians showed that values of democracy had been lost. He alleged that temples and maths were becoming money-collection centres. He called upon the young generation to be aware of such developments and fight against it to build a healthy society.

Procession

A procession of folk teams from various parts of State, including Manteswamy kandaya, veera gase, dollu kunita, Gorovara kunita, Nagari and Tamate added colour to the Dalit convention.
