PALAKKAD: Prakash Mani of Attingal, an accused in the job scam, surrendered before the investigating officer at the Town South police station here on Monday as directed by the High Court. He was an employee of the State Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram. He is accused of helping M.B. Dinesh, a lower division clerk in the Nelliampathy grama panchayat, in securing a government job. Dinesh was first suspended and later removed from service after his arrest in the case last month. Prakash Mani will be produced in court on Tuesday. The police will seek his custody as part of the investigation, sources said. Prakash Mani told the police that he met M.B. Dinesh's father while he (Prakash Mani) was working in the Kerala Agricultural University in Thrissur. He offered to get a government job for Dinesh and demanded Rs.8 lakh. But he was reportedly given only Rs.2 lakh by Dinesh after getting the job. Prakash Mani had said that he had appeared for the Public Service Commission examination for Dinesh. He had been hiding in Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu and Guruvayoor after the news of the scam spread, the police said. He had moved an anticipatory bail plea in the High Court. But the court asked him to surrender before the investigating officer.
