Mother Express to arrive tomorrow

The special train will be open to public at Exhibition Line for two days


Three coaches will have photographs and write-ups on the life and message of Mother Teresa

The Mother is remembered for her tireless work for the poor and the destitute


VISAKHAPATNAM: An exhibition on wheels depicting the life and the philanthropic deeds of Mother Teresa, will chug into Visakhapatnam Railway Station on Wednesday, on the occasion of her birth centenary.

The special train ‘Mother Express' will be on display for general public at Exhibition Line, RPF Ground near Thatichetlapalem for two days on Wednesday and Thursday. Union Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee flagged off this train from Sealdah Station (Kolkata) on August 26. The exhibition train will be open for the general public on those two days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It will be on display at Koraput on January 21 before leaving for Brahmapur (Berhampur). The train has three air-conditioned coaches, which have photographs and write-ups on the life and message of Mother Teresa in association with the Missionaries of Charity. Mother Teresa was a Catholic nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata. She worked tirelessly in the service of the poor, sick, orphaned and destitute for over 47 years.

Mother Teresa, who came to India in 1929 at the age of 18 took up teaching as her first profession. She became an Indian citizen in 1948 and died on September 5, 1997 at the age of 87 at Kolkata.

She received several national and international awards for social service and for her humanitarian work during her lifetime. They included the Bharat Ratna in 1980, the Magsaysay Award in 1962, the Pope John XXIII Peace Prize in 1971, the John F. Kennedy International Award in 1971 and most prestigious Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.
