Commuters bear the brunt
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Commuters in several areas in the city, particularly on the outskirts, had a tough time for a few hours on Monday due to road blockade organised by TJAC, TRS and BJP activists as part of the ‘rasta roko' protest in support of Telangana.
The protest led by Telangana Joint Action Committee was staged at several places including at Oliphant Bridge (Secunderabad), Kukatpally, Lingampally, Suchitra Junction, Uppal crossroads, Qutbullapur, Abdullapurmet, Rajendranagar and other places causing a lot of inconvenience to motorists.
Traffic was disrupted at all the places but there was a heavy traffic jam at the busy Oliphant Bridge near Secunderabad railway station. Police had a tough time clearing the traffic that was on hold for more than half-an-hour there.
Put pressure
Speaking at LB Nagar crossroads, TJAC convener M. Kodandaram said relay fasts would be organised across the region on January 21 and more protests would be planned at a TJAC meet to be held in a couple of days. Their objective was to exert pressure on the Centre by taking up different agitations including non-cooperation for according statehood to Telangana.
