KCR had criticised the government for not finding a single advocate from Telangana region Srikrishna panel report pointed out the need for distributing key posts like A-G among all regions
A. Sudarshan Reddy HYDERABAD: The government has appointed A. Sudarshan Reddy as new Advocate-General of the State, after his resignation as additional AG. He replaces D.V. Sitarama Murthy, who tendered his resignation, reportedly at the instance of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, along with three additional AGs, including Mr. Sudarshan Reddy, P. Harinath Gupta and A. Satya Prasad. Fifty-one-year-old Sudarshan Reddy hails from Jagtial in Karimnagar district. He did degree in Nizam College and legal studies in Osmania University. He was senior to Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy in Nizam College. Governor's clearance Mr. Sudarshan Reddy was a practising senior advocate in the A.P. High Court before he became additional advocate-general in 2009. His appointment to the Constitutional post, under Article 165 (1) of the Constitution, followed clearance by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Monday evening. According to an order issued by the government, it would be effective from the date of Mr. Sudarshan Reddy assuming office but did not specify any term. The elevation of Mr. Sudarshan Reddy has taken the steam out of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) argument that not a single advocate from Telangana has been appointed to the high office of Advocate-General in the integrated State since 1956. TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, at several meetings with lawyers, had criticised the government for not finding a single loyal advocate from the region. Equitable distribution Incidentally, High Court advocates belonging to the Telangana had disrupted the court proceedings demanding, among other things, the appointment of A-G from the region. The government had assured them that it would ensure an “equitable distribution” of the posts to do justice to the region. Quite interestingly, the Srikrishna Committee report had also pointed out the need for distributing key posts like Advocate General and those in Administrative Tribunals in an equitable manner among all the regions.
