Probe Azad's encounter: PUCL
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has appealed to Home Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy to order an inquiry into the encounter killings of Maoist leader Azad and journalist Hemchander Pandey and take action against the officers involved in it.
A delegation of PUCL led by general secretary Jaya Vindhyala submitted a representation to the Home Minister in her chambers on Monday.
‘Review stay'
The delegation demanded that the government should review the stay it got from Supreme Court against the High Court judgement on encounters. The Government's action had only emboldened some police officials to crush human rights with impunity.
The Apex Court observed recently while hearing the petition filed by Swami Agnivesh and late Hemachandar's wife that how could the Republic nation kill its own children.
The observation of Supreme Court should be borne in mind by every State, they said.
The PUCL delegation submitted another representation to the Home Minister seeking surrender of IPS officer P. Sita Ram Anjaneyulu to the Centre in view of his alleged excesses and misbehaviour with women.
