Public meeting at Visvesvaraya Tower on January 20 Gate meetings to be held in front of all government departments BANGALORE: Karnataka State Government Employees' Association president L. Byrappa on Monday demanded that the 5.25 lakh government employees should receive all benefits given to employees of the Union Government as per the 6th Pay Commission, as most of the other State governments had already done so. Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Byrappa said the Centre had already paid the amount retrospectively from 2006 to their employees. In comparison, Karnataka's government employees were getting 40 per cent lesser pay and their lifestyles were being affected owing to the steep price rise, he added. He said that the Principal Secretaries, led by Chief Secretary S.V. Ranganath, had held a meeting on the issue on August 21 last year and had assured the association that the Government would decide the matter after a discussion with Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. Now the association had no option but to start gate meetings in front of all government departments followed by a public meeting at the Visvesvaraya Tower on January 20. Felicitations Mr. Byrappa said the association's executive committee would meet on January 22 for deciding the next agitation if the Government failed to respond to its demand. On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the association, he said 35 farmers would be felicitated on February 11. These farmers are recipients of the Krishi Pandita and Crop competition awards. Mr. Yeddyurappa would inaugurate the function. He said those employees interested in participating in the celebrations could avail of casual leave for three days. Some of the demands of the association include employees to be given HRA and CCA on a par with Union Government rates and time-bound promotions to those who are transferred from one district to another by announcing a transfer policy.
