Election to the CMC posts scheduled on January 22

WITH THE WINNERS:H.M. Nanda Kumar, councillor, who joined the BJP in Madikeri on Monday being accorded a warm welcome.
Madikeri: Prominent Congress councillor and aspirant for the post of the president of Madikeri City Municipal Council (CMC) H.M. Nanda Kumar joined the BJP here on Monday.
This came as a shock to the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular), which had supported him for the post of president of the CMC earlier.
The BJP State Executive Committee member M.P. Sunil Subramani, the former CMC president P.D. Ponnappa and president of the Madikeri town unit of the BJP B.K. Arun Kumar welcomed Mr. Kumar into the BJP. Even as the “operation lotus” succeeded, Mr. Kumar said he was overwhelmed by the confidence reposed in him by BJP leaders. He had not renewed his primary membership in the Congress, he said.
Mr. Kumar accused some Congressmen of blocking his chances of becoming president in the first term of the council.
Surprise move
Mr. Subramani said there were more surprises in store and these surprises would be revealed on January 22 when president and the vice-president of the CMC would be chosen for the second term.
